About
Know Thy Type
The product of a five-year journey to understand oneself, and to become a better person through that knowledge.
What is Know Thy Type?
Know Thy Type is the product of a five-year journey. It started with a simple question: why do I do the things I do? That question led through clinical psychology, personality science, attachment research, and the contemplative traditions that have studied the inner landscape of human experience for centuries. What emerged was not an answer, but a set of tools, and the conviction that those tools should be available to everyone.
This site brings multiple personality frameworks together in one place. Instead of bouncing between scattered blog posts and paywalled quizzes, you can explore your type across every major system, MBTI, Enneagram, Attachment Styles, and Big 5 Emotions, all from a single source. The journey that built it is ongoing, and the site grows as the understanding deepens.
Why multiple frameworks?
No single personality system captures everything about who you are. The MBTI illuminates how you process information. The Enneagram reveals your core motivations. Attachment theory explains how you bond with others. And the Big 5 Emotions framework surfaces the deep emotional patterns, fear, shame, resentment, grief, and guilt, that shape your personality from beneath the surface. Each system offers a different lens. Together, they create a richer, more complete picture.
The approach
Every type page on this site is grounded in the published research and foundational texts behind each framework. Sources are cited. Well-supported claims are distinguished from popular interpretations. Each system is presented as its creators and researchers intended it, not as simplified stereotypes.
There is also a convergent personality assessment that maps your type across multiple frameworks from a single questionnaire. You can take the assessment here.
Who builds this?
Know Thy Type is built by Jon. It is the culmination of five years spent studying personality science, attachment research, and the contemplative traditions that map the inner workings of human emotion. It is an ongoing journey, not a finished product, driven by the belief that understanding yourself is the first step to becoming a better person, for your own sake and for the sake of the people you love.
This is an independent project, not affiliated with any personality assessment publisher. You can read more about why it exists in Jon's letter from the author.
