Know Thy Type ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website www.knowthytype.com. This page describes how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our site.

Information we collect

Quiz responses

When you take our personality assessment, your responses are scored entirely in your browser. Results are stored in your browser's local storage so you can return to them later. If you create an account, your results are also saved to our database so you can access them from any device.

Browsing data

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use our site. This includes data such as pages visited, time spent on pages, scroll depth, quiz engagement, referring URLs, browser type, and device information. GA4 event data is retained for 14 months. This data is used in aggregate to improve our content and user experience, and is not used to personally identify individual visitors.

Email addresses

We ask for your email to unlock your full assessment results. If you provide your email, we may also use it to send you:

• Personality insights and framework deep-dives designed for your benefit
• Updates about new features and content on Know Thy Type

We do not sell your email address to third parties. Ad revenue does not factor into our business model. Every email we send is designed to help you understand yourself better.

Local storage

We use your browser's local storage to remember your theme preference (light or dark mode). This data stays on your device and is never transmitted to us.

How we use your information

The limited information we collect is used to:

• Understand which content is most useful to our visitors
• Improve the site's design and functionality
• Monitor site performance and uptime
• Send personality insights and updates to those who provide their email

Third-party services

Our site is hosted on Vercel, which may collect standard server logs including IP addresses as part of normal web hosting operations. We use Google Analytics 4 to collect anonymized usage data (see "Browsing data" and "Cookies" above). We use Google Fonts to serve typefaces, which means your browser makes requests to Google's servers when loading our pages.

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your information to third parties for marketing purposes.

Cookies

We use Google Analytics 4 with Consent Mode -- analytics cookies are only set after you consent via the cookie banner. When consent is granted, GA4 may set the following cookies on www.knowthytype.com:

• _ga -- Used to distinguish unique users. Persists for up to 2 years.
• _ga_<container-id> -- Used to maintain session state. Persists for up to 2 years.

Until you provide consent, GA4 operates in cookieless mode and does not store any cookies on your device. You can also control cookie behavior through your browser settings at any time.

Children's privacy

Our site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
